Hello my name is Evidence Manyonda, I am the founder of Van Evidence Boerdery. I started farming in 2018 and I am based in Nyabira. I specialize in cucumbers butternuts, watermelons and onions.
When I was young my grandfather used to work for a farmer. The farmer started with small hectarage and over the years he got more money and properties from the project. From that I realized that farming is lucrative.
I have managed to expand my hectarage and also managed to create employment. I currently have eight permanent workers and we hire up to 20 locals during planting and harvesting and this creates employment around the community. I supply my produce to Mbare musika, and Matebeleland open market and that enables me to get straight cash. I am also making preparations to venture into field crops and tobacco at a commercial level. I use organic fertilizers like Humuson complex and anthill soil on my produce making them 100 percent organic.
Before getting into the farming industry, first put yourself into the customer’s shoes, know the produce in demand then plant the crops in demand. Also seek industry experts in order to amass knowledge and reduce loss.
We work in hectors not in hours.
