I specialize in small livestock mainly goats and sheep.
My name is Terence Muripo I am a goat farmer from Woza Farm in ward 20 Bindura, Mash Central. I specialize in small livestock mainly goats and sheep. I am doing stud Boer goat breeding as well as crossing the Boer goats with our local Mashona goats. I have also started a training program for aspiring goat farmers as well as other goat farmers who still need to learn practical aspects of goat farming.
I started goat farming mainly because I realized that almost half of the farm size was not arable and I wanted to find a way of utilizing that nonarable space, so I figured goats were an affordable option to start with and they are quick to multiply as compared to cattle. Goats are easier to raise and can survive on pasture with minimal supplement feeding.
My major success in goat farming was being able to attain the registered breeder status with the South Africa Boer goat breeders’ association (SABGBA) and being able to breed goats that conform to the breed standards set by the SABGBA. I also find great satisfaction in inspiring other farmers young and old to venture into goats and providing them with a suitable and practical goat farming learning environment.
The country currently has a very small number of goats and the country desperately needs more players in the goat farming industry if we are to meet the local and export market demand for goats.
Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy some goats which is almost the same thing!
