Potatoes, Tomatoes, Cabbages, and Lettuce

Greetings, my name is Arthur L Chitogo. I am a young farmer based in the Midlands province. I started serious farming in the year 2016 after having graduated with a business management degree at the Midlands State University. Since then, my farming has grown to build the identity of Gushungo Farm, after my totem. I specialize in the production of horticultural crops such as potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages, and lettuce among others. I am also into poultry and small-scale cattle and goat breeding in the Midlands province.

Inspiration

I was ushered into farming by the harsh circumstances centered around the scarcity of employment, but this So-called "harsh reality" proved to have been a blessing in disguise because I am now an employer to an estimated 15 permanent employees. Besides the situation then, farming became my go-to destination because of the yearn to produce and nature "a life" for the greater good.

Farmer Success

I manage to grow 5000 cabbages, 3 hectares of potatoes, and 2 hectares of tomatoes per year, apart from the other crops. I am currently the reigning young farmer of the year in the Great Dyke region. In the year 2020, I was a nominee for ZFU farmer of the year.

Advice to aspiring farmers

Start small, start where you are, and use what you have. Be hands-on and push yourself to do your best. The sky is the limit. Tinosvika chete.
